Abdullah Dougan
Abdullah Dougan was born in 1918 in NZ. He was a man of good
heart and deep spiritual attainment. While drawing on many traditions of self-development,
his base was that of the Gnostic lineage. While his early teaching relied more
on the methods of Gurdjieff, he later taught more of the Naqshibandi Sufi methods.
The Sufi tradition traces itself back through the Greek Gnostics to the Egyptians,
then to Abraham and before that to Zoroaster. As a trained hypnotherapist Abdullah
competently incorporated self-suggestion and self-hypnosis into his beginning
methods of self-refinement.
I first met him in 1974, as he was about to embark on a 40 day fast on water
alone, while travelling through the Middle East. His main teacher at that time
was Shaikh Abdul al Khyum of Kandahar, Afghanistan. He wrote several books
including one detailing his experiences while on the 40 day fast. On meeting
him we recognised a long past connection and he became my spiritual guide until
his death at the age of 69. Beyond the body, his spiritual influence remains
undiminished and all who come in contact openly with myself receive his help
on the world wide way.
Abdullah's teachings. Tracing his roots back through the Greek Gnostics of Alexandria to Hermes Trismegistos (Thrice Great Hermes, Master of the Egyption Mysteries) and beyond to Zoroaster, Abdullah called his group the "Gnostic Society".
